Common signs include Stiffness, chewing or licking particular joints, difficulties walking up or down the stairs, walking in general, eating slowly, and behavioural changes.

Doesn’t arthritis only affect older dogs?

While arthritis is more common with age, unfortunately any dog of any age may become afflicted. Does my dog have arthritis?

Is blood monitoring required for CVI as for NSAIDs?

It is important to follow the directions for use and to follow through with the 4-week course of treatment for the best clinical response. If treatment is interrupted for a week and there is a two- week hiatus, it is not necessary to start a further 4-week course of treatment. Pet owners may be reluctant to come into the clinic for the entire course of treatment. It is suggested that treatment with NSAIDs requires regular visits to determine whether or not NSAID therapy should be continued and this requires additional bloodwork. Cartrophen Vet does not require bloodwork. In addition, the dosage set out in the package insert should be followed.

It is essential that your dog complete all 4 injections to ensure optimal benefit and modification of the disease process. The frequency of treatment varies from once a year for mild cases and up to three times a year for severe cases.

How long will it take to see results?

The timing for results varies from dog to dog and the severity of arthritis. In some cases they will receive relief in a few days following the first injection to those that see improvement at the end of the fourth injection. If you are not seeing any results, consult your vet.
